" On behalf of the government
of Canada, I would like to extend my warmest congratulations
and best wishes on the launch of the Keewaytinook
Internet High School. This is an example of the innovation
we Northerners pride ourselves in. Northerners have
to be creative because our needs are different, especially
when it comes to the education of young First Nations
people in the North. Our challenge is to ensure that
young First Nations students have the best opportunities
they can have to get a good education at home in the
North. This Internet High School enables 27 students
from North Spirit Lake, Fort Severn and Poplar Hill
to do just that. I think that it is fair to say that
the sky is the limit for this project. This Internet
High School concept offers remarkable and unlimited
opportunities in education among remote First Nation
communities. This Internet High School is also one
of the applications of this government's Smart Communities
concept. This High School puts technology to work
in remote communities where it counts. Once again,
on behalf of the government of Canada, please accept
my congratulations to all those involved in this excellent
initiative and best wishes for the school year and
good luck to you all."
