KiHS Completing 2006/2007 School Year and Planning for 2007/2008

The students at KiHS have a lot to celebrate as they completed the final day for the 2006/2007 school year. They received their report cards on Friday, June 15th, and this past term has been the best term of the year. Students from each of the communities partnered in the KiHS program have worked hard this year and their achievement will be celebrated during an online awards page which can be found here.

In Sachigo, there were 6 students who wrote final exams and each student there received all the credits for this final term that they were registered in. This is a great achievement for that classroom. The students in Saugeen earned in excess of 40 credits this year as well as they completed their first year in partnership with KiHS. The program is giving possibilities to students which were not available before. There are many other great success stories which have happened throughout the year at KiHS.

The next school year (2007/2008) KiHS is continuing to develop ways to improve on the achievement and success which has been increasing since the program started 7 years ago. To give students the opportunity to begin a pathway for university, KiHS is offering courses in academic Math, Science, and English in grade nine (9).  Any student in any school in our area can register. Please check with your local Principal or Education Director to ask if they can arrange this for you through our online program. We will do what we can to make it work to give you this opportunity. We have many other great course offerings as well which can be viewed here.

Everyone at KiHS wishes you all a very safe and relaxing summer break. Make sure you plan for your future and set goals that will bring you to where you want to be. Maybe KiHS can help you along this pathway.

Welcome to the KiHS Website!

2006/2007 School Year on the Home Stretch at KiHS!

The 2006/2007 school year at KiHS is drawing to an end.  Only 5 more weeks and students will be breaking for their summer plans.  This year is proving to be a continued success for the KiHS program as students continue to build credits towards their high school diploma.   Many changes have occurred over the past 6 years to ensure that the program is meeting the needs of the students being served. This year, there are new courses which have been added to give students more options to complete their Ontario diploma requirement. KiHS wants to give every opportunity to students in the north to continue towards success in their educational experience.

  • For the 2007/2008 school year, KiHS will be offering academic programming in three of the core subjects for grade 9.  This will enable students to remain in their home community while setting an educational pathway for university if they choose.
  • KiHS is open to discussions with new communities who wish to partner in this exciting venture and program for the 2007/2008 school year. Students can have access to high school programing in their community or if a highschool already exists, they have access to a larger selection of courses.

Online secondary education is taking off all across North America and KiHS has been a leader in developing a model which is working for students in our First Nation communities. KiHS is an online program which allows students to earn valuable secondary credits while remaining in their home community. Many feel this is very important in that it allows for direct community, parental, and cultural involvement at a natural and needed level. Students are earning valuable skills and adding to the rich technical base in their communities and in doing so getting closer to a high school diploma.

If you would like any additional information regarding KiHS, please contact me at the administration office in Balmertown. KiHS may be just the place you need to help you find a way to complete your credits for your Ontario Secondary School Diploma. Please continue to check out our website and option sheet for this year and if there are courses which could work for you, make sure you call for more information.

KiHS offers an opportunity for students in any community to take high school credits as an independent student if there is no KiHS program in your community.  Call to ask about this....it may be the opportunity you need to get that DIPLOMA!
